Thalle La Trek

The Thalle La Trek is a picturesque and relatively easy trek in the Baltistan region of Pakistan, offering stunning mountain vistas, cultural experiences, and a chance to explore the Karakorum Range. The mountain pass is located in between Shigar and Khaplu.

The trek takes you through the Thalle Lungma valley, a vast and verdant area surrounded by towering mountains. You’ll encounter breathtaking landscapes, including lush meadows, crystal-clear streams, and snow-capped peaks. The highlight of the trek is crossing the Thalle La Pass, which sits at an altitude of 4,572 meters (15,000 feet). The pass offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

You’ll have the opportunity to interact with local communities and learn about their culture, traditions, and way of life. Visit villages, explore ancient monasteries, and experience the warm hospitality of the people. The Thalle La Trek is considered one of the easiest treks in the Baltistan region, making it suitable for trekkers of all levels of experience. However, it’s still important to be physically fit and prepared for the high altitude.  

Itinerary

After arrival NPA representative you accommodate you and transfer you to the hotel. You will have a rest and later we will visit the 2nd most beautiful capital in the world. We will visit Faisal Mosque, Daman-i-Koh view point and Pakistan Monument. Overnight stay in Hotel.

(Approximately: 2 hrs drive)

Morning, we will fly to Skardu, the mountaineering center of the Karakoram (approx. 60 minutes). A panoramic flight over Nanga Parbat (8,125 m), the “mountain of fate of the Germans”, K2, the Karakoram Highway far below, and the Indus River from the airplane window. Once you arrive at Skardu we will visit Manthal Buddha Rock, Local Bazaar. Overnight stay in hotel.

(Approximately: 1 hrs flight, and 2 hrs drive)

After Breakfast, we will drive from Skardu to Khaplu: a 105 kilometer dramatic drive. At Khaplu we will visit the 14th century Chaqchan Mosque with an eye catching architecture of Tibetan, Mughal and Persian style. After that we will visit Khaplu Fort considered an architectural heritage site, built in 19th century.

(Approximately 5hrs drive)

Morning we will drive to Thalle on 4×4 Jeeps we will cross a suspension bridge, enjoy the scenery while driving to Thalle valley. After reaching Thalle Valley we will have a short and easy hike. Overnight stay in tent.

(Approximately 2 hrs drive)

Altitude gained: 250 Meters

After Breakfast, our first day or trekking starts. We will witness along the trek different animals; Yaks and cows and lush green meadows, surround by mountains blanketed with snow peaks. Lifestyles of local people with which we can stop and interact with the beauty of cultures. After that we will continue our trek to Azalan, at the start of Thalle La. Overnight stay in tents.

(Approximately: 6 hrs hike)

Altitude gain: 400 meters

Morning, we will cross Thalle La by Climbing (4,572m). We will cherish the beautiful alpines and the marvellous view of the Haramosh and the Siachen Mountians on west and east. After crossing Thalle La, we will hike on a slope downhill for three hours and pass through the Meadows of Raseppi. Overnight stay in tents.

(Approximately: 6 hrs hike)

Altitutde gained: 900 meters

After Breakfast, we will have our last day of Thalle La Trek. We will descend to Shigar town by crossing the Bangma River through green pastures. We wil have lunch near the river and continue to complete the trek to Shigar. We will walk into Shigar, go to hotel and rest or have a hot shower in Shigar fort. Overnight in Hotel.

(Approximately: 4 hrs hike)

Morning, we will drive to Skardu airport and fly back to Islamabad. After reaching to Islamabad we will visit the hectic Raja Bazaar and at the evening we can roam around the market. After that we will go for our farewell dinner. Overnight stay in hotel.

(Approximately: 1 hrs flight and 2 hrs drive)

Transfer to airport for international departure.

The above itinerary is not a fixed programme but is intended to give an indication of the likely events during the expedition. Please note that because of the nature of mountaineering on 8,000m peaks, it will be necessary to have a flexible plan in order to take the best advantage of situations as they present themselves. Any changes to the itinerary will be made with a view to maximizing the benefit to the team members and of ensuring their eventual success on the mountain.
